Whether it’s the backdrop for a day of outdoor fun or a place of peaceful contemplation, Veterans Tribute Park, 1031 Kisker Rd. in St. Charles, is the place to be.
A playground for children of all abilities is available onsite and provides social/emotional, physical, sensory, cognitive and communicative experiences. The playground is divided into interactive and motion-activated water play, music play, adventure play with climbing features, inclusive swings and a hillside slide.
Older adventurers can step foot on the walking and biking trail system, which spans 1.6 miles, or cast a line into the park’s two lakes that are stocked for catch-and-release fishing. Three non-reservable, open-play fields make perfect locations for pick-up games and activities. A 3-acre off-leash dog park is divided into small and large dog areas. Looking for a scenic spot? Just follow the raised boardwalk to the park’s historic 1916 silo and past the playground to view the park’s lakes through the surrounding canopy of trees.
On Veterans Day [Nov. 11], the park unveiled its Veterans Memorial Garden. The area will feature a plaza, benches and memorial wall with water feature. Commemorative pavers will also decorate the location, immortalizing names of soldiers and local veterans in a year-round tribute.
